COLDPLAY "GOD PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE"

'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' is the third track from Coldplay's Grammy-winning second album, 'A Rush of Blood to the Head'.
The video, directed by award winning director; Jamie Thraves who directed another of the bands videos (the Scientists) shows scenes of the band performing against the narrative of a distressed business man (Paddy Considine) who literally begins to fade into obscurity. The concept seems to suggest that he dissapears to communicate the idea that he is no longer a human anymore, he's just a suit doing a job without any human substance. "Where do we go, nobody knows"

Director:

  • Jamie Thraves

Trivia :

Paddy says of the project:
"I was literally on the sh*tter when I took the call. Jamie Thraves is a great guy and a talented director. He did the Coldplay vid for The Scientist where everything is backwards. I liked the concept of the video and God Put A Smile...happens to be my favourite Coldplay song."

The song was originally called 'Your Guess Is As Good As Mine'

Some of the lines from the songs chorus were used (without permission) by rapper 50 Cent in his song 'God gave me style' from his album 'The Massacre'. Interestingly, The director of 50 Cent's film 'Get rich or die trying' is Jim Sheridan who directed Paddy's 'In America.
